Mission Statement:
The mission of the Norwood Senior Citizen Club is to sponsor friendship, good citizenship, and wholesome recreation.

Club meetings are scheduled for the first and third Monday of each month at l P.M. at the Norwood Community Center, 453 Broadway. Membership is available to Norwood residents aged 55 or over. SENIOR CITIZEN DISCOUNTS

There are many senior citizen discounts available, but in most cases you need to ask for them.  Perhaps the most available way to find senior citizen discounts is membership in American Association of Retired Persons.  Membership is available to those individuals 50 years or over and the fee is currently $20/year.  many restaurants such as IHop, Denny's Shoney's and Fuddruckers offer discounts.  New Jersey Transit offers discount fares for those who have reached 62 years and Metro North recognizes seniors 65 years or older.  Any government issued identification showing date of birth will be accepted.  The following is just a brief sampling of some of the businesses that offer discounts.  Also, check on movie senior discounts such as Clearview Theaters and some of the store chains....Dress Barn has Tuesday senior discounts and Marty Shoes has Wednesday senior discounts.  The U.S. National Park Service offers a Golden Pass for $10.  This is valid not just for outdoor recreation, but also to any of the historic sites operated by the Park Service, e.g., FDR's home at Hyde Park.  Many of the hotel/motel chains offer senior discounts

Norwood Senior Citizen Advisory Committee

The Norwood Borough Council recently approved the formation of the Norwood Senior Citizen Advisory Committee.  Mayor Barsa, Councilman Scott, representatives from the Norwood Senior Citizen Club, Fox Hill Housing, and the health care field comprise the committee.  Their mission is to develop and implement an overall public awareness and information network regarding senior citizens and senior citizen issues and thus be the link between the senior community and the Mayor and Council.  The committee will establish an information network to provide timely information to Norwood Senior Citizens on benefits, services and issues that impact them.  Contact the Office of the Borough Clerk/Administrator at 201-784-2965 or email lmcmackin@norwoodboro.org if you want to place your name on the distribution list.  Also be sure to check the website monthly, as it will be updated to highlight a "senior citizen service or benefit" that may be beneficial to you.

This Month's Topic

CHORE

The CHORE Service, funded by the Bergen County Division of Senior Services, helps senior citizens (aged 60 and over) and disabled homeowners remain safe and secure in their homes by performing minor household repairs that they can no longer do themselves.  Services are performed by CHORE's crew of 21 volunteer handy persons who want to help others.  The CHORE crew will determine if a particular project is beyond their capabilities.  Minor plumbing and electrical (replacement items only) installations such as grab bars in bath areas, internal railings, smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are among their services.  There is no charge for CHORE's services, but clients are expected to pay for the parts necessary to complete the repair and a donation is appreciated.  CHORE is unable to service emergencies and a wait for a service call can be up to two weeks.  Call 201-489-7790 to schedule a service.
